Welcome to Saint Brigid's Streaming Video Site

1. What is "Streaming Video"?

Saint Brigid's Parish now has the ability to "broadcast" masses and other services from the church building to anyone who has internet access.
People can hear and see the event live on their home computer.

2. When can someone see a mass or other event at St. Brigd's?

We can only show an event "live" -- at the time it is taking place.
We can only show events taking place inside the church on Post Ave
(not the school or other locations). We will only be able to show an event when there is a camera operator available. We have a group of volunteers who have been operating the cameras at the 10am, 11:30am Sunday Masses, and sometimes at the 5pm Saturday Mass. Those are the most likely times a person can see a mass online.

3. What equipment does someone need to have in order to see an event from St Brigid's?

  • A computer with speakers
  • A connection to the internet (Cable or DSL will yield the best pictures)
  • Software on the computer called Windows Media Player
It is available for free online. Click here if you need to download it.

4. Can I use a Macintosh computer to access St. Brigid's?

Of course. Windows Media Player is available for Macs too.

5. How can I be sure that everything is working and ready for the Streaming Video from St. Brigid's?

You can try to look at some streaming video from somewhere else on the internet. Try this site: TEST SITE You should see a logo and hear sound.

6. I can hear see the logo, but cannot hear the sound. What do I do?

Make sure the speakers to your computer are turned on and the sound is turned up. Click the play button again and see if you can hear it now.

7. I'm still not getting sound OR I'm not getting ANYTHING.

Now is the time to go to whoever helps you with your computer. He/she will be able to get Windows Media Player intalled and running properly. At this time St. Brigid's does not have a technology ministry available to answer technical questions with home computers. (Unless someone wants to start one.)

8. OK, I've run the test and my computer and my Windows Media Player works. How do I get to see St. Brigid's online?

We need to send you the URL to go to.
In order to do that, we ask you to fill in a viewer form.Click Here.

9. Why can't I just go to the site and look?

We're starting slowly. Since we're in the testing mode right now, we can only accomodate a few viewers at a time. We are willing to spend the money for the "deluxe" streaming package but only if we know there are enough interested viewers to make it worthwhile.

10. How much does it cost?

It is free to viewers, but it will cost the parish hundreds of dollars each month to fund this project. We're willing to do this if people will use the service.
We're also interested in donors:

  • Private donors -- if you would like to support this ministry, we
    welcome your donations
  • Business Donors -- your company or foundation can sponsor a
month of streaming video from St. Brigid's and we'll feature this
sponsorship both online and in the bulletin

To find out more about helping us financially in establishing this
new ministry, contact our Business Office robc@saintbrigid.net

    or e-mail Father Ralph shepherd@saintbrigid.net

11. What are some of the ways St. Brigid's plans to use Streaming Video?

  • Homebound people can see and hear mass from St. Brigid's each weekend
  • People whose families live in other countries or states can watch a wedding or baptism or funeral if they cannot travel to attend in person
  • Special events such as our children's pageant, choir concerts, evenings of prayer, mission talks, school graduation mass, first communions, etc. all can be seen by those who cannot be here in person.

12. How can I get involved?

We are training volunteer camera operators. You must be at least an 8th grader or older to be eligible for this ministry. Skill at video games and basic knowledge of computers is helpful in this project. If you would like to be trained to operate the cameras, e-mail Father Ralph.
