Quote of the Week
“We cannot do everything
and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way,
an opportunity for God's grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results,
but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers,
not master builders,
ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own. ”
--Archbishop Oscar Romero

Today’s Bible Quote
“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of posessions.”
Luke 12

Perhaps you saw the front page story in The Long Island Catholic last week in which it was announced that a new Diocesan Director for the Spanish Apostolate had been appointed. It turns out that the new director is from our very own parish of St. Brigid’s. Manuel J. Ramos, who has been involved in the leadership of our parish for years, was selected for this post. It is wonderful that the diocese has recognized what the people of St. Brigid’s have known for a long time: Manuel is a talented, energetic, compassionate, caring leader. This new job will have many challenges along the way and we want Manuel to know that he has our prayers and support in the days ahead. And it’s nice to know that at the end of each day and at the end of each week, he’ll be coming “home” to us.

I received a notice from the planning committee for our new bishop inviting each parish to send some representatives to the installation for Bishop Murphy. There are two
(count ‘em, that’s two) openings for
Tuesday, September 4th’s 7:30pm evening prayer and two more openings for Wednesday, September 5th’s 1:30 Installation Mass. Both events take place in Rockville Centre. Well I don’t know how to pick four people out of a parish of over 6,000 families! I then remembered the story of what happened to the Apostles after the death of Judas -- they wanted to replace him and so they cast lots and the lot fell to Matthias.

So I'm announcing the “Go to Bishop Murphy’s Installation Lottery.”
Requirements to “play”:

(a) Be a registered parishioner of St. Brigid’s
(b) Really, really, really, really want to go
(c) Be able to attend the installation on either (or both) of the days. (However, you’ll only get to go to one if you’re chosen.)
(d) Let us know by next Sunday if you’d like to be in the lottery.

Do this by filling in the form that's in this week's bulletin and return it to the parish center or drop it in the collection next weekend. We will randomly pick four names from all those received.
