Unpacking St. Brigid's

Want
to e-mail Father Ralph?
Anyone who has stopped into my office in
the parish center can’t help but notice the pile of boxes that still
fill the room. It’s not that I’m reluctant to move in -- in
fact after two weeks here I’m discovering that I already feel like
I belong. But I’ve found out that unpacking will take some time.
One reason is that I’m
having too much fun meeting people, and talking with our parish staff
to get to the boxes. Second, when I open up a box I find I’m spending
time with its contents -- I’m reminded of when I first read those
books...or I find myself looking through an album...and I want to remember
the road that lead me to where I am today. This can’t be rushed.
But I also am looking to the future. I’m
noticing some areas where we can use today’s technology to increase
communications between people. For example, there is no intercom system
between the parish center and the rectory and the school, religious education
office, outreach, etc. We have 11 locations that could be linked together
and I’m looking at different ways to do this.
With the increased used of computers these
days, we could also form an “intranet” between offices, as well
as develop our internet outreach to the parish community. I know a little
about these things, but it becomes clearer each day that we need some
help to begin to develop technology for the future. So I thought I’d
ask through this column (and by word of mouth) for some help. There’s
an online form on this page for people who have some area of expertise
and who’d consider being part of a technology ministry here at St.
Brigid’s. Fill in the info and send it. (See-- the technology is
already making things easy!)
I’ll be away this week on the parish’s
mission retreat in El Salvador. Please continue to pray for us on our
journey. I’ll be back next week to continue unpacking.
