A Grateful Thanks

Thanksgiving blessings
During he past two week’s I’ve lived in the busiest place on earth -- the steady stream of people who came to donate food, turkeys, their time and financial contributions was so uplifting. There was hardly a day when I walked out of the rectory and didn’t get caught up in this constant life of charity. There are so many people to thank but in a special way I thank God for our Outreach Coordinator Joan Psotto and the Thanksgiving Food Basket Coordinator Diane Cavallaro who worked so tirelessly to see that over 500 families were well fed with food & love this Thanksgiving.

This past week we said thank you to Marie Firenze who for over 20 years was the business administrator of St. Brigid’s parish. Several hundred of her friends gathered for the 9am Mass on Tuesday and an informal reception following the mass.
Over and over people told stories of Marie’s love of the parish, her dedication and her ability to make the parish financial resources go a long way. In fact, Marie oversaw the financial operations from the time the parish had a $1.2 million deficit to the present where $1.5 million has been raised in our Millennium Fund.

I want to add my thanks to all those who have thanked Marie for her hard work, dedication and love for our parish. And as she said at the mass, “I leave as business administrator but I don’t leave being a parishioner”. And I’m most grateful that Marie will still be part of the parish life here at St. Brigid’s.
For the past few months, Marie has worked with our new business Manager, Tony Owen. The transition has been very smooth and I’m so grateful that Tony has accepted this position in our parish and he has been developing our financial and management programs very well.

I probably should put a word in here about the Millennium Fund since many parishioners have already expressed suggestions on how we should spend the money. However, there is no money to spent yet. The way the fund works is this: We are to raise $2million in the Millennium Fund. Once this target has been reached, we can then use only the interest generated by the fund to pay for a variety of parish improvements to building, grounds, and programs. Until we reach this goal, none of the money is available. So, if you’ve made a pledge to the Millennium Fund and have kept up on your contributions, THANK YOU! We’ve collected $1.5 million thanks to you. If you’ve made a pledge but haven’t made your contribution lately, this would be a good time to help us out by sending in your pledge payment before the end of the year. (It’s tax deductible.) And if you haven’t made a pledge, would you consider doing so at this time? The sooner we reach our goal, the sooner we’ll be able to use the funds to continue to the work of our parish.
