Faith Has Its Awards

Sister Marcelle
Next Sunday, November 24th we gather to celebrate and bless Sister Marcelle who has been serving our community for the past years. There will be a special blessing and presentation at the 2:30 Haitian Mass followed by a reception in St. Anthony Hall immediately following the mass. All are invited to come as Sister Marcelle moves on to a new ministry and as we welcome Sister Bruno to our commun
ity.

Donations Still Needed
A number of local businesses and organizations have contributed over $10,000 toward our parking lot project. We still need further donations to afford this project. If your company or organization can help us at this time, please give a call.

Columns from 2001

Most people realize that our parishes couldn’t pass on our faith in religious education programs without dedicated volunteers. At St. Brigid, hundreds of volunteer catechists and assistants make up our program and come weekly to teach our children in the ways of faith.

Each year the diocese presents awards to catechists who have taught in Religious Education program for a significant number of years and this year awards were given to five of our parishioners for their years of service.
At the recent Diocesan Religious education Awards ceremony : Sister Ann Horn, Director of Religious Education, Carleen Barten, Mary Pat Keegan, Bishop Emil Wcela and Laura Tallman
The Pope John XXII award for those who have contributed 25 years of outstanding volunteer service in the catechetical ministry was presented to Mary Pat Keegan. The St. Pius X award for those who have contributed ten years of outstanding volunteer service in the catechetical ministry was presented to Carleen Barten, Diane Cavallaro, Ellen Denniston and Laura Tallman.

Our religious education program continues to be large and complex as we seek to help families in educating 1600 children from different language and cultural backgrounds, as we help to prepare them for sacraments, as we invite them to grow closer to God and the church community. I want to thank all who are part of our religious education program, especially those who have given many years of service, as well as those who are just beginning to teach in this ministry. It is a challenging and rewarding way to share our faith with others.

This week we will confirm close to 200 young people who take a step closer to God and make a deeper commitment to being part of the church. Thank you to all who lead them to this moment. I ask everyone to pray for these candidates that they will be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit that God will pour into them.
