Treat, Definitely Treat

Welcoming Children
I recently told the parents of first graders that while we have a great family mass at 10am, that they and their children are welcome to attend any of our masses -- for the Eucharist is always a “family” celebration. I suggested that they sit up front so the children can see better. So, if you like the front rows yourself and you see some little ones coming to join you, just be like Jesus and welcome the little children and their families to sit with you.

Cool Way to Pray
If you’d like to try out a new interactive prayer site online, go to the St. Brigid’s home page and click on the “Church Interactive” link. Lots of people tried it last week.

Away at College?
If you know of a St. Brigid parishioner who is away at college, you can help us stay in touch through our parish’s weekly “letter from home”. Send in their name and e-mail address
just click here.

Today’s Bible Quote
“Brothers and sisters, we always pray for you that our God may make you worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose and every effort of faith, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you.”
-2 Thessalonians 1

During this past week of Halloween, I got to meet our new bishop, Bishop William Murphy, who gave me the decree that formally appoints me as the new pastor of St. Brigid’s. Up until now, I was the administrator and just a “practicing pastor” (you know, like a “practicing Catholic”)

Some of my friends good naturedly asked whether my appointment to St. Brigid’s on Halloween was a “trick or a treat” and I can say, after living with you for four months, that being pastor of St. Brigid’s is a treat...definitely a treat!

Next Sunday, November 11th at 2:30pm we will be celebrating a mass in which I’m formally installed as pastor. The various choirs and liturgical ministries have come together to prepare a wonderful celebration of our parish. Then we’ll go from holy hour to happy hour afterwards -- if you want to help with food and fun, I understand that people are scurrying to put together a parish reception after mass and they’re looking for help.

While the focus of such an installation can naturally be on the new pastor, I’m more interested in making this day a celebration of what’s wonderful about our parish -- our diversity, the acceptance of all, the life and enthusiasm for Jesus, the caring and service that are the hallmarks of this community. So I’m hoping that all feel welcome to attend the celebration -- children, teens, young adults, adults, seniors, folks from all our ethnic and ministerial communities. Let this be a grand family celebration!
