Daughters of Mary

Vote on Tuesday
In an era when more and more people worldwide are gaining the right to vote, fewer Americans take
advantage of this right. More than fifty million eligible Americans are not registered to vote. In the November 1996 elections, only 49 percent of eligible voters went to the polls.
Catholic social teaching strongly promotes active citizenship. In their 1999 statement Faithful
Citizenship: Civic Responsibility for a New Millennium, the bishops state, "In the Catholic tradition,
responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation"
So...take some time to look into the candidates who’ll best represent the values we want to see grow in our nation and let’s exercise one of the most beloved privileges of our land: vote!

Columns from 2001

We recently received news from the religious superior of the Daughters of Mary that Sister Marcelle will be transferred to a new pastoral assignment later this month. In her place, they are sending Sister Bruno to continue ministering here with Sister Cecilia.

Sister Marcelle has ministered to many people in our community for the past years. While many of our staff members are “specialists”, Sister Marcelle has been involved in many aspects of parish life including Religious Education, Parish Outreach, immigration ministry, music ministry, eucharistic ministry, youth ministry, to name a few. While much of her work has been in the Haitian community, Sister Marcelle’s life among us has touched so many in our community across so many cultures.

Sister Marcelle
Our parish will gather to celebrate and thank Sister Marcelle at the 2:30pm Kreyol Mass on Sunday, November 24th followed by a reception in St. Anthony’s Hall. All are invited to experience Haitian hospitality, good music and spirited worship.
We’ll also have the opportunity to formally welcome Sister Bruno to our parish. She comes to us after 20 years in middle-school and high school work.

I am so grateful to the Daughters of Mary for their commitment to serving our parish. Sister Marcelle, Sister Cecilia and now Sister Bruno are signs of Mary’s care for her children, signs of the compassion of Jesus, signs of the love of God.

We will continue to pray for them in their ministry in the days and years ahead.
