The Fall Mass Schedule

Spreading the Faith
We’re again inviting you (yes, really I mean you) to offer some time in our Religious Education program next fall. We want to share our faith with the children of our parish, don’t we? Perhaps you could teach a small group of children -- if this will be your first time we’ll give you all the preparation you’ll need. Perhaps our program will need other types of help in the office, in areas of publicity, translation, hall monitoring, etc. So when you hear someone inviting you to consider your roll in spreading the faith, just say “ of course!”

Celebrating Father Rolando
On Sunday, June 16th, the Spanish community is celebrating Father’s Day with a special emphasis: Father Rolando. At the end of June, Father Rolando will be beginning a new assignment in Glen Cove and at the 11:30 Spanish Mass in the school, we will have a special blessing for Father Rolando followed by a barbecue outside. Come join us for Mass and/or the barbecue to say thanks to Father Rolando for his ministry among us.

Today’s Bible Quote

“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
Go and learn the meaning of the words,
'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."
--Matthew 9

Columns from 2001

Over the last several weeks I’ve had the input of dozens of people who gave feedback on our proposed mass schedule changes which will take effect in the fall. As I had mentioned a few weeks ago, we are facing a downsizing in the number of priests who serve our parish and it became evident that we had to adjust our schedule accordingly.

I’m so grateful that people took the time to share their opinions. Our parish staff carefully weighed all the comments that were phoned in,
e-mailed in or sent in letters. It was so encouraging that the comments were so supportive and understanding. After reflecting on all that we received, we have come up with a schedule that will start in September as follows:

Saturday:
5pm
7pm Spanish
Sunday
7am (we are not planning to have music at this mass)
8:45 Italian
9:00 (chapel)
10:00 Family Mass
10:15 (chapel)
11:30
11:45 Spanish (chapel)
1pm Baptisms
2:30 Kreyol
6pm Rock Mass

One advantage of this schedule is that it allows us to add an additional 1pm mass on certain occasions (Palm Sunday, Easter, First Communion masses, etc.)

Over the next months we will be working with the various ministers (lectors, eucharistic ministers, ushers, servers, music ministers, etc.) who are affected by this change to adjust their schedules. Mass intentions already taken for the 7:30 mass will be honored at the 7am mass. Intentions already taken for the 1pm mass will be incorporated into the 11:30 mass, unless a person requests the intention to be moved to another mass.

Thanks to all for your patient understanding during this time of transition.
