Passing Grace

Can You Name the Gifts of the Holy Spirit?
Of course ALL good things are gifts from the Spirit, but there are seven traditionally named gifts:
Wisdom
Understanding
Knowledge
Right Judgment
Courage
Reverence
Wonder & Awe
Which gifts are most alive in you? Which do you want God to increase in you?

Today’s Bible Quote

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;
there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
there are different workings but the same God
who produces all of them in everyone.
To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit
is given for some benefit.”
-1 Corinthians 12

Columns from 2001

For the past several years Parish Outreach at St. Brigid’s has been coordinated by Joan Psotto (pictured left) and with her care and guidance our dedicated outreach staff and countless volunteers were empowered to reach out in love to hundreds of people who experienced the unfairness of injustice, the oppression of poverty, the ache of hunger, the indignity of beaurocracy,
the pain and worry of sickness, the uncertainty of unemployment, the sadness of loneliness, the darkness of death. Joan had the grace and wisdom to support those who were engaged in this ministry with trust and respect, giving them a sense of freedom and courage in their work. The program grew in size and scope during Joan’s time of leadership and her passionate concern for people in need as well as her strong sense of what is special about the St. Brigid community has made a difference in the lives of many families and in our entire community.

Several months ago Joan announced her intention to move on from the Coordinator of Outreach at St. Brigid’s and since it’s been difficult to imagine Outreach without Joan, it seems appropriate that “another Joan” would come forward to lead. Joan Echausse (pictured right) is beginning her second term as Outreach coordinator -- Joan was coordinator at St. Brigid’s from 1990-92 and returns to a ministry that has developed a lot over these past ten years.

Joan is married 44 years to Paul, is the mother of eight, mother-in-law of five, “Grandy” to 13 (14th expected in August). She has been involved at St. Brigid’s as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, Outreach Core worker, Parish Council, Liturgy Committee. When asked about her vision for Outreach she spoke of a quote from Mother Theresa: “In the service of the poor, we are feeding the hungry Christ, clothing the naked Christ, taking care of the sick Christ, and giving shelter to the homeless Christ.”

In gratitude for Joan Psotto’s ministry among us and to welcome Joan Eschausse back into this ministry, our parish will celebrate at the 1pm Mass on June 2nd, followed by a reception on St. Brigid’s green immediately following the mass.
