21: The Poor Are Hurt Again |

Each year a lot of lives are profoundly touched by the transfer of priests between parishes. I know that I have been greatly blessed by my assignment to St. Brigids. The transfer season is upon us again and this year there are a number of changes throughout our diocese among the priests who minister to the growing hispanic communities throughout Long Island. One of these transfers affects our community here at St. Brigids. Father Rolando has been asked to accept an assignment at St. Patricks in Glen Cove at the end of June and Father George Onida has been asked to accept the assignment to St. Brigids. |

| For
the past four years Father Rolando has ministered to the people of St. Brigids,
caring for not only the hispanic community, but offering ministry of healing,
reconciliation and eucharist in the English-speaking community as well.
We will miss him in our parish and I know that we will especially miss him
in our rectory. Father George is a Marianist priest who has spent most of his priestly ministry working in Peru, Columbia and Puerto Rico, especially with the poor. We will welcome him to our parish community and look forward to the gifts that he will bring to our family here. (More about Father George will be forthcoming in future bulletins.) |

One of the hardest parts about being a priest is leaving a community that we love. So please pray for all of the priests in our diocese who are facing transition this season, and especially for Father Rolando and Father George. One of the best things about being a priest is discovering a new community of brothers and sisters in which to live and minister. Thus the challenge of moving is offset by the experience of new love. |
