March 31, 2002 * The Feast of Easter!

Alleluia ! Alleluia! Alleluia!

How Did God Touch You?
Perhaps you were touched by the powerful liturgies of Holy Week and God came into your life in a new and more abundant way. Did it happen through song? Or through a word spoken? Or a gesture? Or a symbol? Or the people around you?
All of what happened in Holy Week was a remarkable gift of the people of this church family. The things we experienced together didn’t “just happen”. Hundreds of people gave their time in countless and often hidden ways to make these celebrations come alive. And because of their work, God touched you. Be sure to take the time to thank God and also reach out and thank any of the people whose ministry helped you to experience God’s presence this week.

Own A Father Augustine Original
Outreach is planning on purchasing a bus to be used for transporting Senior Citizens. To fund this project, we’ve been selling mugs. Did you know that the artwork on the mugs (a drawing of St.Brigid’s church) is the work of Father Augustine. Though he has returned to India, his legacy lives on here. You too can own a “Father Augustine” original -- or share this little work of art with others by including it in an Easter basket or two!

Have You Pledged?
We're still collecting pledges for our Bishop's Annual Appeal which supports the work of the church throughout Long Island and in our parish. To pledge online

The huge stone that had covered the opening of Jesus’ tomb was rolled back. It could not imprison the Lord of life! The disciples who went to the tomb found it empty and came to believe that Jesus was risen from the dead.
We too have come to believe. Though we’ve had to face some pretty oppressive “stones” in the past year, terrorism in our land, abuse in the church, and many other personal troubles besides, we come to know that when we place our lives before Jesus and give all things to him, he rolls back these stones of destruction and we soon find that they too are empty parts of our lives. They have no more power over us for the Lord gives us the ability to forgive, to understand, to overcome with love.

And yet the empty tomb is not the end of the story. In fact it is a powerful new beginning for the friends of Jesus. In the days after the resurrection he meets with them, feeding them, forgiving them, giving them peace and giving them the Holy Spirit. They begin to learn what it means to be church and the story continues to this day as we meet the Risen Lord in the sacraments and as we learn what it means to be church.

So let us enjoy these next 50 days in the great season of Easter. Just as Lent was a time of fasting, let this be a time of feasting. Come often to receive the Body and Blood of Christ and to listen to his Word. What a perfect time to come back to the church to celebrate with one another Jesus’ risen presence and our hope for the future! We will be welcoming children to the table of the Eucharist during this season; we will be celebrating Confirmation this Pentecost. We will keep on welcoming people into a new and vibrant life.
On behalf of our entire parish staff I want to wish you and your family a Happy Easter and may the blessings of the Risen Jesus fill you with peace
.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
