Last weekend I had fun visiting all of our Sunday masses to make a pitch for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Really, it was so good to see everyone who comes to St.Brigid’s on a weekend. Well not everyone... since the first snow of the season kept some folks away and others took advantage of the three-day weekend to travel. So, if you didn’t hear my scintillating and motivating words, please read on. If you WERE here last weekend and you made a pledge, you can just read the last three words of this column backwards.

We are called to do the work of Jesus. Each day we try to find ways to share what God has given to us so that there will be more people fed, housed, healed, educated, welcomed, counseled, and loved. Yet alone we can’t reach out to all the sick, all the immigrants, all the elderly, all the children, all those in need. So each year at this time, our bishop asks us to participate in one of the best opportunities to make an incredible difference as a church who cares actively for those who Jesus cares for.

This effort takes a great deal of financing and St. Brigid’s is asked to contribute $111,309 toward the Bishop’s Appeal this year. If you happen to have a spare $111,000 I’d be happy to accept that donation toward our parish goal. But failing that, perhaps you could offer $309 (around 85 cents a day) this year. Larger or smaller contributions are also welcome.
The good news is that once we reach out goal, we receive 25% of that back; and 75% of every dollar received over the goal is returned to us. So our parish will receive $30,000 to help us in paying our bills and offering services to our parishioners.

If you received the Bishop’s Appeal letter in the mail, please send in your pledge. If you have never given to the Appeal before, I’m asking you to help us by being a first time Appeal donor. You can do so right here at our website: CLICK HERE!

or by taking a card from the back of the church and returning it in the collection basket.
In the way in which you give, you help to bless others in need and you bless God!

For the Record..
