Christmas at St. Brigid's doesn't just happen in the church.
Our young adult group goes out to the streets.

Mary and Joseph arrived in the Bethlehem and found themselves "out in the cold". Our young adult group reaches out to those who look for work each day on cold winter mornings. This outreach continues through the winter with hot coffee and pastries.

"We're not going to lock up the pastor of St. Brigid's."

Newsday recently reported on a proposed bill that could make it illegal to minister to the needs of immigrants who have come to the United States without documents.

One of the sponsors of the bill, Congressman Peter King is willing to re-word the bill after receiving criticism that the wording was so vague that people who minister to the basic needs of immigrants could be arrested. "Immigrant advocates said this could lead to the imprisonment of priests, nuns, social workers, doctors and Good Samaritans who may provide these immigrants with anything from counseling to a ride to the grocery store," the story said.

Congressman King then was quoted as saying, "If an alien smuggling ring gets a guy into the country and he stops at St. Brigid's at a soup kitchen, we're not going to lock up the pastor of St. Brigid's. They're not part of the smuggling ring."

Even though St. Brigid's doesn't run a soup kitchen, we figure that our charity to all has gotten the notice of even the folks on capital hill.
Glad to know we won't be thrown into jail for doing the corporal works of mercy.

Read a different article about how kids in our parish are feeding the hungry. We'll work to keep them out of jail too!
