This week our parish is on a mission. It’s our Lenten mission where we reflect on God and ourselves as a community of disciples of Jesus. Are you ready to go on this journey?
Yes I know that life is busy. But think about it -- when Jesus picked disciples to follow him, he chose people who were hard at work -- fishermen mending their nets, a tax collector at his post, etc. They saw something in him that allowed them to put aside what they were doing to spend time with him. And the history of the world was changed because they did that.
So that’s the invitation to you...drop what you’re doing. There will be more of that ahead anyway. But you won’t have this particular chance again once this week goes by. Come and be a disciple in a special way for three days -- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Each night starts at 7:30pm in the school. We have some wonderful presenters lined up so that people can experience the mission either in English, Spanish, Italian or Kreyol. (For those who are unable to get away at night, there will also be a mission talk in English each day immediately after the 12:10 mass.)
Our theme of the mission this year is “One Body, One Spirit in Christ!” Jesus’ prayer at the Last Supper was that “all would be one” and this mission gives us a chance to reflect on unity within our families and our church.

I think people take ushers for granted. But they make such a valuable contribution to the celebrations in church. They greet us, seat us, give handouts when needed, take up the offertory for the support of the church’s important work. They hand out bulletins on the way out, neaten up the church for the next mass and respond in emergencies. Thanks to all our ushers! As Holy Week approaches we are going to have extra masses and services that won’t have regularly assigned ushers since they’re at their “regular” masses. So we’re looking to create a special team of ushers for these special occasions.
