So it’s Lent. And we’re headed off toward renewing our life in
Jesus this coming Easter. Lent gives us a chance to
spend time on “retreat” -- just as Jesus spent 40 days
in the desert.
At St. Brigid’s we’re taking some special time together in
the midst of the 40 days to be part of a mission. This year’s mission theme is “One Body, One Spirit in Christ.” At a time when many people are struggling -- ongoing employment issues, the devastation of the Haitian earthquake, troubles in our families, etc., we can draw strength by being together for Lenten reflection and prayer.
Last year we had a very successful mission with the Montfort Fathers and based on the feedback we received, we’re offering another dynamic mission this year. As we did last year, we’ll offer presentations in different languages for the first two nights of the mission. Then we gather together for the Eucharist for the third night. We’ll also have a daytime mission presentation for those who cannot attend at night.
We’re happy to have a team of excellent presenters. Vincentian Father Joe Agostino will lead the mission in English; Maryknoll Father Joseph McCabe will lead the mission in Italian; Father Eddy Julien will lead the mission in Kreyol; Luis Rivera will lead the mission in Spanish.
Please mark the mission dates on your calendar and plan on spending three wonderful nights: Monday, March 1, Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday March 3. Each evening will start at 7:30pm and all mission presentations will take place in the school on Maple Ave. The mid-day mission talk will take place after the 12:10 Mass in the church on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of mission week.

Have you had a chance to look over the Faith Direct materials printed in the bulletin or mailed to your home? Faith Direct is a way to automatically support our parish financially. Quite a number of families have been doing automated giving at St. Brigid’s for years through their bank. (Note if you’re already signed up to give this way, you can continue to do so -- it’s up to you whether you want to switch to Faith Direct.)
One of the traditional actions of lent is “almsgiving” and this Lent is a time for each person to consider how he or she is giving back to God from the blessings received. Perhaps a good way to live out a Lenten resolution to support the work of the church is to sign up for Faith Direct.
You can go to the Faith Direct website (and use Parish Code 250 for St Brigd's) to sign up. Please consider joining your fellow parishioners who are participating in this way of giving.
Thank you.
