Youth@SaintBrigid

Now that the school year is in full swing, our high school youth ministry program called “Youth at St. Brigid” is underway for another season. Last week’s bulletin featured a page that outlined all the activities for the coming year including...

Hero Night (3rd Sundays of the month featuring food
--hero sandwiches-- and a guest presented to talk
about our heros -- saints in heaven and saints on
earth)

Peanut Butter Gang (on scheduled Saturday mornings
where we make sandwiches for distribution
at a soup kitchen)

Y@SB Band (leads music at the 5pm mass on the
first Saturday of the month)

Hang Out Night (1st Sundays of the month which
feature discussions/socializing, games, movies, etc.)

Retreats, trips, service projects, etc.

I wanted to follow up on last week’s page by personally inviting parents of high school students to bring their teens to our program. There are a ton of pressures and activities that teens have in their lives -- academics, athletics, jobs (or lack thereof), family responsibilities -- and families are good at leading their children through these pressures. But there is also a spiritual part of each of us that needs to be developed. Youth@SaintBrigid is our local way of helping families be supportive of the developing spirituality of our youth.

The challenge, of course, is making the time in the first place. But like any commitment to a sport or to playing an instrument, the choice to get involved leads us to finding the time for those things that matter. Your children matter to God and our church community. So we make the time and this program available. Please spread the word about this program and bring your teens and their friends to one of the gatherings. The next one is this Sunday night (October 18th) from 7-9pm in the Teen Center in the school, It’s “Hero Night.”

Big Boost

Over the past couple of weeks we received two large gifts from two foundations: $10,000 from the William and Winifred O’Reilly Foundation and $75,000 from the O’Sullivan Children’s Foundation. That brings our total donations to $196,783. But in addition to these large gifts, for which we are very grateful, we have been receiving contributions from many parishioners for which we are also most grateful.
