More Here and There

On the one hand, I’ve been enjoying these clear and sunny days at the start of September, yet on the other hand there was something nagging at me and at first I couldn’t figure it out -- then as September 11th aproached, I remembered. September 11th, 2001 was an equally beautiful day, until the planes crashed into the twin towers and our world was never the same.

So the “nagging” feeling I’ve had these last days have turned to prayer, and again we remember those from our community who died that day: David Arce, Richard Aronow, Michael Boyle, Richard Bruehert, Thomas DeAngelis, David Fontana, Wade Green, Ann McGovern, and Thomas Strada. Other people who are special to you and your families perished that day too. And their memory lives on in our prayers and hearts. We pray for all those whose lives were changed because of the tragedy of that day.

Even though I’m back from vacation this week, you won’t see me this weekend because as I mentioned a few weeks ago, each year I spend one weekend helping to give a retreat weekend for couples whose marriages are in trouble. This is the weekend. So please pray for me and the couples who are leading the weekend and for the couples who are attending the weekend. There is a lot of healing that’s about to happen. And if you know of a couple whose marriage could benefit from a weekend like this, you can point them to www.retrouvaille.org for more information.

Our summer raffle is over and we raised over $30,000 (after paying out on the prizes). This much needed money will pay some of our current bills. Congratulations to the prize winners:  1st Prize: Andrew Bennett, 2nd Prize: George Seelinger, 3rd Prize: Nurvia Ovalles-Kabash. Acturally, we all won in this raffle as our parish is being helped to continue the work we do so well. Thank you to all who participated in this raffle,

Seventeen Days to Go

Each day I’m grateful to our letter carrier who brings in more letters with contributions for our debt reduction campaign. Some letters include a couple of hundred dollars. Some contain thousands. Each contribution inches us toward our goal of raising $300,000 by the end of the month when we’ll receive an additional $100,000 from a generous donor who’s using his gift to encourage the rest of the parish to retire the debt.
