It’s summertime again and who knows, maybe it will dry out and we’ll see the sun one of the days. One of my favorite things to do in the summertime is to visit with parishioners in something I call “Sommer in the Summer.” (My last name is “Sommer”, get it?)
While I’ll be taking some vacation time, I’ll also be around throughout the summer and have some free evenings, days and weekends to gather with folks to share some time, have good conversations and dessert (of course). I’ve been doing these visits for the past 26 years and sometimes it’s with a group of people who have some specific topics they’d like to chat about. Sometimes it’s much more informal. Sometimes it’s been with teens or kids and/or their families.
So before the summer gets by us (and as usual it will go too fast), why not talk to some of your neighbors and friends to see if you (or they) would like to host a “Sommer in the Summer” this year. I’d really enjoy the visit, for it gives me a good chance to get to know folks in our parish beyond the usual ways (coming to mass, preparing for sacraments, parish ministries/societies, etc.)
To arrange for a date, you can e-mail me (shepherd@saintbrigid.net) or call (516)334-0021 ext 115.
If you are going away this summer, here are a few things to consider:
• If you need to know when Sunday masses are in the place you’re going, there is a helpful web site www.masstimes.org -- just put in the zip code and it will tell you where the local church is and at what times they celebrate mass
• Bring back a bulletin from those parishes -- it gives us ideas of what’s happening in other places
• Please don’t forget to support our parish financially during the summer -- just like at home, the bills don’t go away so we don’t want your contributions to go away either.
• Don’t forget to come home. We’ll miss you!

We’re happy to welcome Father Augustine and Father Anthony back for the summer.
It’s always good to have friends -- family actually --back in the parish.
If you’re looking to reach them by phone, Father Augustine’s extension is 118 and Father Anthony’s is 119.
Father Wismick is back too -- but not just for the summer. We hope he’ll stay for a long time. He’s going to be enrolled in graduate studies at Forham University but since he’s living with us he’ll also be available for masses, baptisms, funerals and weddings. Father Wismick’s extension is 122.
As we announced in last week’s bulletin, Sr. Fran McGlynn told me two weeks ago that she has decided to retire at the end of this month. Please join us for a special farewell Mass this coming Tuesday at 9am, followed by a reception in St. Anthony’s Hall.
