Mission Week

Our Lenten Mission begins this week and I’m grateful to the Montfort Missionary Fathers for spending a great deal of time with us to plan and lead this mission. They are a remarkable group of enthusiastic and holy men and I’m personally looking forward to being at the mission this week.

Here’s an overview, day by day of what’s happening. But don’t get overwhelmed by all the details. The simplest thing to do is to come each night (Monday - Thursday) at 8pm to the school. However, there are other aspects to the mission....

MONDAY... Morning (Mission comes to our school.)
12:10 Mass (Mission talk after mass)
6pm Mission Comes to Religious Education Classes
8pm Mission (English, Spanish, Kreyol in School)
(Italian in the church)

As you can see....there are many opportunities for different parishioners to experience the mission. Indeed the theme of the mission revolves around two aspects of our parish life: we’re diverse on so many levels and yet, we’re united in Christ.

Please pray for the success of the mission and please attend.

Speaking of Missionaries

Ever since Father Derlis left for Paraguay, we have been without a replacement and over the past few months we’ve relied on some extra visiting priests to help us, especially during the weekday masses.
I’m happy to announce that between now and June we’ll have the pleasure of having a missionary priest staying and working us. Father Stan Chukwube is a Spiritan Father (the order used be known as the “Holy Ghost Fathers.”)
Father Stan has served in as varied places as Nigeria, Holland, Zimbabwe, and West Islip. In July he will be assigned to hospital chaplaincy in the diocese but for the next couple of months he’s “ours.”

We expect that Bishop Murphy will assign us a priest this June so that we have the usual number of priests to minister in our parish.

Looking ahead to the summer, we ‘re looking to welcome back Father Augustine and Father Anthony Bonsu for July and August.
