Spreading the Word

When we make a wonderful discovery (for example -- we saw a great movie, or found a good doctor, or discovered a nice place to go for vacation), we’re eager to tell others about the good that we encountered. “Spreading the Word” come easily when we know that our family and friends will benefit from what we’ve encountered.

There are two wonderful things I’m inviting you to spread the word about. The first is our parish’s response to the concerns people have about employment issues. This coming Wednesday night, March 18th, at 7:30pm in St. Anthony’s Hall, we’re hosting an evening of support for those concerned with employment issues. Whether a person has lost a job or is afraid that a job loss is coming, or whether a person is finding his/her current job to be less than desirable, this night will offer hope and support. We’ve got two wonderful guest speakers and we’ll have time to see what our parish can do in the future to offer support during these challenging times. So if you know parishioners who could benefit from this night, please send them an e-mail with the info. The information page online is www.saintbrigid.net/employment

The second event is our Parish Lenten Mission which will be held next week (March 23-26). You’ll meet some of the Montfort Missionary Fathers this weekend as they will be preaching at many of the masses. The theme of the mission is: “Though we are many, we are one Body in Christ.” It’s really perfect for Saint Brigid’s parish because we are so large and diverse, yet we are a closely united community because of our relationship to Jesus.

Since the Montforts are an international order, they bring priests who speak different languages. That will allow all of us to experience the mission in our own language. There will also be a special night for teens (8th grade and high school ages) on Tuesday of the mission week with Father Frank Pizzarelli.

I’m asking you to spread the good news about our mission (see info to the left) and actually invite others to attend the mission with you. When we’ve discovered something good, we’re eager to spread the word. And this mission will be really good.

Employment Night

The mission will take three different forms.
(a) Evening Mission Presentations
Each evening at 8pm, the Montfort Fathers will give the mission in our school in three different rooms in three different languages (English, Spanish, Kreyol). And on Monday, we’ll have “Italian night” in the church. On Tuesday night, we’ll have Teen Night in the church at 7:30pm.

(b) Daytime Mission
For those who cannot attend the main mission presentation in the evening,
we invite you to come to the 12:10 Mass during our Mission week. Immediately after mass the Montfort Fathers will give a short mission presentation.

(c) Mission for children
The Montfort fathers will visit our school during the morning and our Religious Education Program in the afternoon and evening.  Parents of children in our Religious Education Program are invited to stay during the hour so they can experience the mission with their children.
