Did you know?

My mother's health
Thank you for all your prayers and concern for my mother who suffered a heart attack two weeks ago. She is making slow progress in recovering. So keep the prayers coming.

St John Who?
Next Sunday the church celebrates the Feast of St. John Lateran. Don’t feel bad if you never heard of this saint because there is no saint by this name.
During my recent retreat to Italy, I visited the Basilica of Saint John Lateran and put together a little web page explaining how this church got its name.
So, if you don’t want to be kept in suspense, click here.

This week I have an assortment of things to mention...

The agreement that leads to the finalization of the Convent Lease was signed this week by myself, our parish trustees Beverly Bain and Matt Cahill, and Bishop Dunne and Bishop Murphy. It now goes to SCO, the agency who is leasing the building from us. Any day now!!

Next Monday is our Blood Drive. The importance of giving blood was brought home again to me this past week when my mother required blood as part of her treatment after her heart attack. You can help countless other moms, dads, and children who need life-giving blood by stopping by our Blood Drive between 4 and 9pm on Monday, November 10th in Code Auditorium in the school.

I’m happy to announce that Scott and Barbara Cooper have agreed to coordinate our Family Mass Committee. This committee will meet once a month to help evaluate and plan our 10am Family Masses. We’re looking for other moms and dads to be part of this group. To join, email the Coopers. If you’re looking to get more involved in our church family life, this is a good place to consider.

Vote. Tuesday is Election Day and it’s our duty as faithful citizens to vote. Don’t just consider the presidential candidates, but be prepared to make wise choices regarding our local elected officials as well. A good website to help consider the issues and candidates in the election is: www.faithfulcitizenship.org

This is the tenth anniversary year of the Millennium Fund. A decade ago our parish embarked on a campaign to raise $2 million for a fund to help with capital expenses and parish program development. As we celebrate this anniversary I want to thank all who participated by organizing the campaign and those who contributed over the years. Even with the downturn of the stock market, the fund has yielded hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for our parish. It has been a blessing.
