Tick, Tick, Tick
It’s Wednesday when we send the bulletin to the printer and so
far, the clock is ticking and we’ve not yet heard whether we’ll
get a priest to come in Father Jim’s place. We’re waiting
to hear about who will be assigned to minister to the Spanish-speaking
community.
Keep praying.

Welcome
Home
Many of our college students are home for the summer and we’re
happy to see them back at St. Brigid’s on the weekends. Congratulations
to all who successfully completed another semester and especially to
all who graduated Congratulations to all who are graduating from high
school too.
Receptionist
Position
After nearly two decades of serving our parish as our receptionist Therese
Walsh will be retiring at the end of June. We are currently beginning
a search for a new receptionist. The job description can be found online
or a copy is available at the parish center.
We’ll certainly miss Therese and we’ll be having a retirement
party soon -- watch this space for details in a few weeks.
Census
Continues
Of the approximate 6,000 families we usually send mail to, we’ve
received completed Census booklets from over 4,000. So we’ve got
a ways to go.
Is your booklet in?

It’s
time to celebrate Father John Derasmo’s 25 years of priesthood.
(For those of you who were expecting a comment here about Father John’s
hair turning from black to “silver”, please know that I don’t
use this space to point out such things.) No, “turning silver”,
refers to Father John’s silver jubilee.
Father John was ordained on June
6th 1981, as a Capuchin priest and later (to our diocese’s great
delight) he became a priest of the Diocese of Rockville Centre where he
served in St. Anthony’s in Rocky Point, St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa,
St. Mary’s in Roslyn, was pastor in Resurrection Parish in Farmingville,
and has been ministering here in St. Brigid’s for almost two years.
We have been blessed with Father John’s sense of humor, his patience,
his spirituality, his joy, his sense of humble service.
Personally, I was very glad when
Father John sought to come to St. Brigid’s. I had known and worked
with Father John on a diocesan committee for the Catechumenate for several
years and he actually asked to be assigned to St. Brigid’s. Sometimes
the size and complexity of our parish could seem frightening to those
who don’t know us. But Father John has courage and an adventurous
spirit; he’s open to how God would use and guide him -- and we,
the people and staff of St. Brigid’s, are blessed because of this.
This Tuesday, June 6th at 7:30pm
Father John will celebrate his anniversary mass at St. Brigid’s.
We’ll have a reception after mass. All are invited to come pray
with Father Joh
n and join in the celebration after mass.
