New Pastor for St Brigid

Oktoberfiesta
You’ve heard of “Oktoberfest”? Well we’re going one step further to host an “Oktoberfiesta” for all our parish volunteers who are involved in parish ministries -- whether it’s ministry at mass, or through Outreach or Religious Ed, or on e of our councils, etc, etc, --All parish volunteers are invited to a festive party on Friday, October 21st.
It’s our staff’s way of saying “Thank you” for your involvement in serving others in our parish.
A fun time is being planned with plenty of food and music. Our staff is having a good time in preparing for this feast.

Ok, I don’t know if you’re cheering or weeping, but it’s not what is sounds like. There is some reason for weeping and cheering, however, since once again there will be a transfer of priests at St. Brigid’s. Father José Quilcate who has been with us for the past year, has received a new assignment -- actually, it’s his old assignment at St. Ignatius in Hicksville. And coming in his place is Father Pastor Arroyave. Yes, his name is “Father Pastor”.

We are going to miss Father José and we’re planning a special farewell mass and reception for him on Sunday, October 9th starting with the 11:45 Spanish Mass. All are invited to join in thanking Father José for his time of service with us. Father José has worked diligently in serving the Spanish-speaking community and has been learning English so as to minister to the wider St. Brigid community as well. He was responsible for adding an early morning Spanish mass on Sundays to better servethe growing hispanic population.

Speaking of priests who have served at St. Brigid’s, we also want to say thanks to Father Fitz who has been with us these past three months during the summer. He is returning to Rome at the end of the month to finish his studies, after which he will return to the Philippines.

People have enjoyed his homilies, and his ministry among us. Father Fitz not only celebrated masses in English, but celebrated in Italian as well. We wish him well in his future endeavors and we’ll continue to pray for him through the days ahead.

As for me, I’m not going anywhere, so if you hear the rumor that there’s a new pastor at St. Brigid’s, well it’s true, but now you know the real story.
