The Painters are Coming!

Vacation
I’m taking two weeks vacation to an “undisclosed location” so you’re all on your own while I’m gone!
I’ll miss the start of the painting project, but I’ll be back to “inspect” before long.
When I get back I’m looking forward to meeting with folks for “Sommer in the Summer”-- an informal conversation with your friends and neighbors over dessert. You can e-mail suggested dates or see me when I’m back after July 18th to set up a date.
Catholic Ministries Appeal
Thanks to all who made a pledge in response to last week’s “encouragement” by Soraya Navia. We’ll give an accounting in a couple of week of where we’re at in the campaign. Right now every new dollar given will come back to us in the form of a rebate once we reach our goal.

Last Tuesday we met with the contractor who will handle the painting of our church interior this summer. We are also able to arrange for the refinishing of the floors and the pews at the same time. So here’s what’s about to happen:

Wednesday, July 6th, 7pm Parishioner volunteers needed to put things away -- anything that isn’t permanently affixed to floor or walls needs to be put into storage. If you have some time and can help with storing things in the basement, the attic or the garages, we need your help. Please call our office (516)334-0021 and leave word with the receptionist to let us know you’ll be here to help.

Monday July 11th:
From this day on, weekday masses (including funerals) will be moved to Our Lady's Chapel in the school. The church will be closed from Monday through Friday so that the painting and re-finishing can take place.

Weekends and weddings: We’ll keep the regular weekend and wedding schedules in the Church. The contractor assures us that scaffolding will be down during those times. Half the pews will be shipped out (they plan to start with the back half) to be refinished and we’ll use chairs in their place until they’re returned. Then the other half of the pews will be taken and refinished.. So things will be a little different for a few weeks.

The whole job is to be completed by the first week of September.
This project is being funded through the Millennium Fund, the fund that parishioners contributed nearly $2million to over the past years. Again I want to thank all those who contributed to this fund and to Ed Moritz and the Millennium Fund Committee who oversee the investment so that we’re able to draw dividends for projects like these. Most parishes would need a fundraising campaign to refinish their church. The Millennium Fund is a gift that will keep on giving into the next generations.
