Third Sunday of Easter

Two men on a journey

Parish Website
When we decided to offer special prayer times this past week to remember the Holy Father, we couldn’t notify people through the bulletin since last week’s bulletin had already gone to press before he died. The one way we could give out current infomation about the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the special Rosary on Thursday and the special mass on Friday was via the parish website.
The website is good for more mundane things too (like reminding folks to turn their clocks ahead one hour a week ago). And of course you can always catch up on photos of recent and not-so-recent events in the parish.
So....make www.saintbrigid.net
one of your “favorites” that you bookmark and check us out from time to time and especially during situations where you need the latest news of what’s happening here.

I had the occasion to look through my collection of photos this past week and came across the slide I took of John Paul II and Father Don Hanson, pastor of our neighboring parish, Our Lady of Hope. This past week at St. Brigid’s we had three special days of prayer for John Paul whose death we mourn. This weekend at Our Lady of Hope that parish celebrates the honor Father Don recently received when the pope named him a monsignor.

It was 1979 and Father Don was directing our choir of seminarians during morning prayer for the pope at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The klieglights were bright and warm and a sweat broke out on Father Don’s brow. Toward the end of the prayer, the Holy Father came over, took out his handkerchief and wiped Father Don’s forehead. It was a touching moment.

Today we hear about two of Jesus’ disciples on the road to Emmaus. They encountered Jesus on their journey. So I thought it was fitting to share this photo of two good men who are also disciples of Jesus. They too have encountered Christ and then shared the good news with others, just as those early disciples did.

One has finished his journey. The other, God-willing, has many more wonderful miles to go. Their example helps each of to reflect in our lives: “Where have we met Jesus? How do we share the stories of good news with others?”

The most intimate place we meet Jesus to this day is in the “breaking of the bread”, the Eucharist. Whether pope or priest or parishioner, it is the same Jesus who comes to us all. The same Jesus who unites us, forgives us, teaches us, feeds us, heals us and loves us.
