Our New Priests

Pouring Wine
Starting this weekend you’ll notice that we’re following new Vatican rules for the pouring of wine at mass. There had been concern that sometimes the Precious Blood is spilled or dripped onto the altar cloths when it’s poured from the flagon (pitcher) to the individual cups. The Vatican solution? Simple! Pour before it’s consecrated! This way if any spills, it’s just wine! So you’ll notice that we’re now pouring the wine into the cups at the time that the gifts are prepared at the altar.

At College?
At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

As promised, Father José Quilcate has arrived to begin ministering here in St. Brigid’s as a full time Associate Pastor. He is originally from Peru and has most recently been ministering at St. Ignatius in Hicksville before he came to us.
Father José will be working primarily with Spanish speaking parishioners but he has been studying English -- and is currently enrolled in an English program at Nassau Community College, so the whole parish is sure to get to know him over the months ahead.
Bienvenidos a Padre José!

A few weeks ago I got a call from the hospital ministry department in the diocese to see if we had room for a hospital chaplain to stay at the rectory. Of course we did! The good news is that Father Anthony Bonsu is now in residence with us. Father Anthony, though not formally on the staff of St. Brigid’s, will be able to celebrate mass with us on days that that he is not ministering in the hospital. Originally from Ghana, Father Anthony has been a chaplain at Nassau University Medical Center for the past two years and had previously living in Lynbrook -- a muich longer commute than from st. Brigid’s. He is also studying at St. John’s University.
Welcome Father Anthony!

People have been asking me “who do you know that you’re able to get more priests at a time when other parishes are losing priests.?” I just keep explaining to those in the diocese all the good work our parish is doing. We ought to consider ourselves rather blessed to have this many priests. It won’t last forever, though. So enjoy!
