Our New Priests

Saying Farewell to Father George
Father George will be leaving us in mid July and we want the opportunity to  ask God to bless him and to give him our thanks for his presence and ministry among us. We will  celebrate Father George in a special way at the 11:45 Spanish mass on Sunday,  June 27th and at the 6pm Rock Mass on that same day.  There will be a reception following each of those masses so there will be time to chat with Father George and wish him well.
Father Leonard On the Way
Father Leonard is traveling back home to Nigeria this weekend and we wish him well and ask God to bring him home safely.  If you’d like to stay in touch with Father Leonard his e-mail address is

Sommer in the Summer
Got some things you’d like to ask a priest? Want to have a nice conversation about God, the church, the world, the future? Like hosting gatherings in your home? Got dessert? Then you’re a candidate to host one of this year’s Sommer in the Summer sessions. Father Ralph Sommer wants to visit folks throughout the parish throughout the summer for as chance to hear what people are thinking, wondering about, or questioning. The process is casual and simple. Pick a date with Father Ralph (during the day...or evenings). Then invite friends or neighbors to come. (Twelve people is a good number for this.) Tell them to prepare some questions or topics they’d like to talk about. Get dessert.
This is a good way for a pastor to get to know folks in an informal setting.
E-mail or call Father Ralph if you’d like to host.

At College?
At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

We’ve been wondering for weeks which priests will come to St. Brigid’s and I’m happy to announce that Bishop Murphy has assigned Father John Derasmo to take Father Leonard’s
place. I have known Father John for many years and worked with him in the diocese. I’m thrilled that he applied to come here and we welcome him with great joy.

Alas,  our joy is delayed because Father John won’t be able to join us until January 2005. since Bishop Murphy has asked him to stay on in Resurrection Parish in Farmingville until his replacement (Father Malcolm Burns -- who served at St Brigid a few years ago) arrives later this year.  Father Malcom is on sabbatical until then.

However, we’re getting another gifted priest in the person of Father Jim Mannion since Father John can’t join us til later in the year.  I’ve also know Father Jim for many years -- we were in the seminary together -- and I know that we will be very blessed by his ministry among us.
Father Jim will move here at the end of this month.

But wait, that’s not all... Bishop Murphy has assigned Father José Quilcate (pronounced “kill-cáh-tay”)to our parish. Padre Jose is from Peru and has recently come to our diocese to minister to the Spanish speaking community.  We are glad to welcome him not only to work among the hispanic population,  but we all hope to get to know him and benefit from his ministry among us.

I’m very grateful to Bishop Murphy, Msgr Bob Guglielmone, the director of Priest Personnel, and the Personnel Board for sending us such wonderful priests.
