The Resurrection Sequel

Easter Fund Thanks
This year we budgeted $95,000 for the Easter Fund Collection and thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, we received almost $99,000. We’re very grateful for your support and the whole parish benefits because we rely on this fund (along with the weekly collection)to cover the ordinary expenses of our parish programs. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity.

Hospital Reminder
Last week our parish staff met with the director of pastoral ministry at Winthrop Hospital who asked us to spread the word that it’s important for patients to identify themselves as Catholic when entering the hospital if they want the services of the church (visit by chaplain, communion, etc.) New laws prohibit pastoral visits unless the patient identifies his/her religion.

At College?
At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

As the movie “The Passion of the Christ” disappears from the movie theatres, it’s time to focus on the sequel “The Resurrection of the Christ.” Since Mel Gibson hasn’t made this movie, we’ll have to do our own version here at St. Brigid’s.
So I’m putting together a presentation on the Resurrection of Jesus that will let us meditate on the gospel accounts of the Resurrection and connect it with our lives.
There are a lot of fascinating moments in the accounts of Jesus appearing to his disciples. (Ever wonder why they mention that apostles caught “153 fish”?) Why do people not recognize Jesus at first when he appears to them? What do the appearances of Jesus tell us about the resurrection of our loved ones (and ultimately ourselves)? Why do the gospel differ in their accounts of the resurrection? What are the implications of the Resurrection on how we follow Jesus today?
We’ll offer this look at the Resurrection two different times -- Tuesday May 11th at 10am and then again at 7:30pm. We’ll meet in the chapel at the school.
While the movie on the passion of Jesus got lots of conversations started about Jesus, talking about the Resurrection is the natural next step. Feel free to bring family members or friends to this presentation so you can continue the conversation.

PS. Jesus gave us his body and blood so that we might have life. I’m asking all eligible parishioners to consider giving a pint of blood in our upcoming Blood Drive (May 10th) to give life to another. Please sign up if you’re willing to give blood.
