Support for Father Augustine
As you may remember from a few weeks ago, Father Augustine’s brother Anthony died suddenly in India. Anthony was the sole provider for his parents and for his wife and children. Our parish has been so blessed by the ministry of Father Augustine (and we’ll be blessed by his presence this summer too) that we’d like to reach out and offer some financial support to Father Augustine’s family who are devastated by this loss. Next weekend we’ve arranged to have volunteers at the doors of the church after mass to accept free-will donations for the support of Father Augustine’s family. Checks can be made out to St. Brigid’s. We will forward the receipts of the collection to Father Augustine’s family,

At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

After a three week “visit” to Code Auditorium, our Sunday masses are back in Our Lady’s Chapel. Those who are attending mass in the chapel will notice a new backdrop to the altar. Thanks to many volunteers, under the direction of Al Posillico, and thanks to Jim Caiafa for his electrical work, we now have a more dynamic and permanent backdrop.

The project still need a bit more work --
carpeting still needs to be installed, for
example. The lights need to be connected and the painting needs to be completed. But our volunteers worked very
hard over the past two weeks to
accomplish this construction and I’m very
grateful to all who helped.

There is an important feature in the new wall. Since
the room is often used for other purposes than church, it’s been somewhat uncomfortable that we ignore the Blessed Sacrament, present in the tabernacle during these other times. We want to teach our children respect for the presence of Jesus but it’s hard to reverence the Blessed Sacrament in the midst of dance classes, religious education meetings, science fairs etc. So our new design allows us to move the tabernacle into a little room behind the wall when the room is not being used for prayer. Then when we use it as a prayer or worship space, the tabernacle can easily be brought back into the room.

We hope this project will help us to create a more prayerful atmosphere in the chapel. We’ll be cleaning, painting and rearranging some of the other aspects of the chapel over the next few months to continue to make this a prayerful place to be.
