Our Patron Saint

A Merry Christmas
We’ve finally totalled up the donations to the Christmas Fund collection for this past Christmas. Our parish (that’s YOU!!) received $115,000 in donations from parishioners. Thank you so much. If somehow you forgot to send in a Christmas donation, you can still help us out, as we’re ten thousand dollars short of our projected amount. (Why not send in a donation on the occasion of our parish Feast Day?)

Welcome Father Henry
Father Henry Tanto will be staying with us for the next few weeks while Father George is away in Ecuador. Father is from Cameroon and a member of the Congregation of Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy. He was ordained in 1987 and has worked in the Umuahia and Aba Dioceses in Nigeria. He’s currently studying Spirituality and Spiritual Direction at Forham University.)

At College?

At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

Since today is the Feast of St. Brigid, perhaps it would be good to see how much of this saint has “rubbed off” on us. After all, she is our patron saint and one of the “jobs” of a patron saint is to help flavor our lives with holiness.

So I’ve put together a checklist of qualities of her life and let’s see how much our parish (and ourselves) resemble her example of holiness. Get out your pencils and write on a scale of one to ten how much our parish and yoursef are like St. Brigid...

Quality of St. Brigid Parish

1. Was extremly generous to the poor.
2. Was comfortable in sharing faith with others.
3. Had a sense of humor.
4. Brought others to know and accept Jesus.
5. Her special gift was hospitality
6. She prayed regularly and relied on God.
7. She envisioned that heaven would have a lake filled with beer.
8. She welcomed strangers.
9. She fed hungry people.
10. She was good at helping women and men
to develop their spiritual lives.
11. She gave good example.

Saint Brigid” is more than a comfortable name on our signs. Saint Brigid was a strong and joyful woman who led people to find Christ -- many were converted from Paganism to Christianity. And she strengthened others on their Christuan journey. We honor her by imitating her, even as she imitated Christ.
