The Future of Our Youth

Thou Shalt Not Park
Let’s face it: there is not enough parking right behind the church to accomodate all the handicapped parking people would like. So in an attempt to park close to church, people are parking in the narrow driveway that leads to the church. This is dangerous and becomes an impediment to other disabled people. Dangerous, because we can’t get an emergency vehicle through. And in the past weeks it has been brought to my attention that people block the only wheelchair accessible entrance with their cars so that people in wheelchairs have to go over curbs to get in.
I’m having a traffic engineer look at our situation but in the mean time, please don’t block the entrance to our church.

At College?

At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

St. Brigid’s Parish has a strong tradition of caring for the elders of our community. Senior Connection, Ministry of Winter Grace, bringing communion to the homebound, offering courses and programs in the day when it’s easier for Seniors to get out, etc... We have an equally strong tradition of involving our Youth. We have an excellent school and we have hundreds of people who volunteer as catechists so we can pass on our faith through the Religious Education Program.

This weekend we invite young people who are in high school to become part of our Youth@SaintBrigid program. Under the coordination of Vince Buzzeo, this youth program is being developed to include a wide range of components that will minister to youth as well as encourage them to minister to others. There is Active Learning -- including youth teaching youth; Prayer -- faith sharing that makes clear connections to real-life situations; Leadership Development -- youth learning and using leadership skills; Awareness -- of important moral, social, environmental, religious and political issues; Service -- understanding all we do in terms of whom it may serve; Community Building -- opportunities for socialization and friendships.

We continue to look for qualified youth leaders to join a team which will guide this program. This weekend we invite all high school students (in public and Catholic high schools) to sign up for our youth program. Two sign-up times are available -- after the 10:15am Mass and after the 6pm Mass. I’m asking parents to talk with your teen about trying this program for a time to see what it is about. In this way we as a church community can support your work as parents and provide a safe and enjoyable parish experience for our youth.

Many people look with fondness on their experience in a parish youth group. Some people never had that experience growing up. The young people of St. Brigid’s DO have a chance to grow in our community. Please reach out to them and invite them to get involved.
If you miss the sign-up or need more information, contact Vince at: youth@saintbrigid.net
