Off to College?

Hundreds of our parishioners headed off to college -- either for the first time or as returning students. At St. Brigid’s we like to stay in touch through
e-mail “letters from home.”
Once a person has an e-mail address at school (or if he/she uses a personal address), please let us know what it is so we can include them when we write.
Here's a handy college link so you can send this info online.

This weekend Bishop Murphy ordained Jesus* Guadarrama, c.m. as deacon. Deacon Jesus was born in Ixlahuaca, Mexico and joined the Vincentian Order after he came to the United States. He has been helping as a seminarian in our parish for the past year under the guidance of Father George and has been especially involved with the spanish young-adult group.

We’re happy that Deacon Jesus is going to be involved in a variety of ministries in our parish. You will get to meet him at masses throughout the year ahead and he will be celebrating baptisms and weddings and be involved in other aspects of parish life. Deacon Jesus will reside in the Vincentian residence in Oyster Bay and will be with us on weekends and at selected times during the week.
Deacon Jesus notes in his online biography
Three things moved me to enter the Vincentians: the simplicity of their common life; their support for one another, and their love of the poor. I felt confident with them, because in I saw the human face of Christ in them. They really enjoy life, and share the joys, sorrows, and struggles of daily life. Their love of the poor also moved me very much. Finally, their missionary work makes it possible for me to be involved in many and varied ministries in my lifetime.

When I crossed the border between Mexico and the United States, I took a great risk. Now, I feel like I have taken an even greater risk. I look beyond borders and find the face of Christ in the poor. The path of Jesus and St. Vincent is now the path I walk. It is a risk that will lead me into great and wonderful adventures of love and service.”

Deacon Jesus will be ordained to the priesthood as a Vincentian Father next year. In the meantime we are grateful for his ministry among us as our newest deacon and we welcome him with great joy!
