Upcoming Ordinations

Father Augustine
I’m happy to announce that Father Augustine will be coming back to visit St. Brigid’s during the months of June and July. He’s taking a break from his duties in Rome and we look forward to his being back “home” here at St. Brigid’s.

First Communions
In the weeks ahead we’re celebrating First Communions with many of our young people and their families. We’re happy to welcome them to the table of the Lord. What’s even better than first communion is that they can now receive second communion, third communion and so on -- yes, this is the beginning of a new life for these young parishioners. We rejoice with them! Alleluia!

We’re getting a new deacon and a new priest in the months ahead! This is good news for our parish and we look forward to the ministry of the two who are being ordained soon.

Manuel J. Ramos has been a parishioner of St. Brigid’s for many years and has served our community in a variety of ministries, especially in the Spanish-speaking community. He will be ordained on May 17th at St. Agnes Cathedral and we’ll celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving here at St. Brigid’s on Sunday May 18th at 11:45 in Code Auditorium. All are invited to celebrate Manuel’s ordination and we look forward to his service among us as a deacon.

Kevin Dillon grew up in nearby Williston Park and is being ordained to the priesthood on June 14th. His first assignment will be here at St. Brigid’s. St. Brigid’s parish has been so good in forming newly ordained priests over the years that we’ll be blessed again with someone who is beginning his priestly ministry among us. We’re looking forward to getting to know our new priest and the gifts that he brings to our parish. We look forward to sharing our gifts with him too.

The only downside to accepting newly-ordained priests is that they only get a five-year assignment here. And thus we’re faced with blessing Father Jim and sending him off to his new assignment. The bishop and the diocesan priest personnel office are still in the process of matching priests with their new assignments and so it will be several weeks before Father Jim will know what his new assignment will be. But we know that he’ll be here until June 25th and together we must go through the gentle process of letting him go.

We’ve got two major celebrations planned: We’re having a Parish Picnic to thank all our volunteers and at which Father Jim will be honored on Saturday, May 31st starting at 3pm at our school. All parishioners are invited. We’ll celebrate a special Eucharist with Father Jim on Friday, June 13th at 7:30pm in the church followed by informal reception on St. Brigid’s Green following the mass.

Two ordinations ahead and the past 5 years with Father Jim -- a lot to be thankful for this Easter Season. Alleluia!
