Jessica Teodoro (left) is starting her fifth year as a catechist and is now teaching Confirmation Level II Candidates -- many of whom she's been teaching since 5th grade. Jessica keeps coming back because she enjoys teaching and she enjoys helping her children learn about God. Danielle Teodoro (right) has been a catechist for 12 years! This year she is teaching Level I Confirnation Candidates. When she was young, she struggled with going to religion class because it wasn't enjoyable or engaging. So when she became old enough she thought that she could bring her love for God and the church to young people in a more engaging and interesting way. So, rather than giving up when something didn't go right, Danielle decided to make a difference. These two sisters have been making a difference in the lives of our children so they're our Catechists of the Week • October 9, 2011

Peggy Boyko is teaching in our program for the first time. She’s not a first time catechist though…years ago she taught in another parish. And while she didn’t exactly plan to teach this fall, “something” in her was prompting her to become a catechist again. That “something” became a reality when she came to register her son and discovered that we needed more catechists because registrations were up. She said “yes!”
So….for not ignoring the call of the Holy Spirit, Peggy Boyko is our Catechist of the Week • October 16, 2011

Maureen Roland has been a catechist at St. Brigid’s for the past twelve years. Even though she lives in Oyster Bay, she keeps coming back “because this is my parish,” she said. Even though a family tragedy led her to drop out of a lot of other volunteer activities, she chose to keep on teaching at St. Brigid’s this year. For her love and dedication, Maureen is our Catechist of the Week • October 23, 2011

Mary Pat Keegan was just awarded the Bishop McGann Service award by Bishop John Dunne (pictured here) for her over 37 years of service as a catechist. When she was in third grade in a school in a neighboring parish, her teacher told stories of the missionaries who went to far away places to spread the word of God. She remembered sitting and listening to those stories of men and women who traveled to such “exotic” places as Japan and Africa. She made up her mind that she wanted to travel to places like that. She would be like those missionaries, bring the love of God to those who did not yet know Him. Little did she realize then that her missionary work would be carried out much closer to home — at St. Brigid’s. For being such a dedicated “missionary,” Mary Pat is our Catechist of the week • November 6, 2011

Brianna Loverde remembers how much she enjoyed her Religious Education faith formation over the years — especially the wonderful catechists she had when she was preparing for first communion. Now that she is in high school, she wanted to “return the favor” and she is enjoying sharing HER faith with the latest group of children preparing for first communion. So for her enthusiasm and joy we celebrate Brianna as our “Catechist of the Week.”
