Essential

July 20th

This week’s heat wave gave me the perfect opportunity to stay indoors with the AC on high, comfortable enough to organize some books and toys in the house.

I never thought this task was going to become a project that took a couple of  days to accomplish, (I went from organizing books and toys to sorting clothes to donate and papers to shred! ). I had to keep reminding myself that we needed to get rid of unnecesary things in order to keep an organized and clean house.

Among the books that I was sorting, I found my favorite book of all times:

The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint -Exuperie. A dear friend of mine had given me this book as a birthday present a long time ago and wrote a special note to me on the first page that read….” remember that what is essential is invisible and must be seen with the heart”.

Last Sunday, during his homily, Father Augustine reminded us to place the Who first rather than the What; the people we love and the relationships we care about should always come before things that take us away from them. That is also the essential value that will help us keep a strong relationship with Christ who is present in every person we see around us.

As books and toys look better organized at home ( thanks to the power of team work), my team and I will be taking a well deserved break and spend time reading together The Little Prince.

Enjoy your weekend!
